History of origin

Fredrik Kempe and Bobby Ljungren are well-known faces of the Melodifestivalen , the Swedish preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest . Kempe himself took part in the competition for the first time in 2004, back then as a singer, while Bobby Ljunggren wrote songs for the competition as early as 1987, including the winning titles in 1995, 1998 and 2006, all three of which also made it into at least the top ten. The two have worked together since 2005. Hero later became the first of four winning titles for Kempe to date.

Kempe wrote the text, which is about heroism and love. They wrote the music for the dance-pop song together. The song was finally presented to Måns Zelmerlöw on the one hand, and Charlotte Perreli on the other, both of whom recorded a version. However, Zelmerlöw also found the song more suitable for Perrelli, who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1999 with the song Take Me to Your Heaven . Perrelli had already turned down a few offers for further editions of the Melodifestivalen, but liked the title the first time it was heard and therefore agreed. Finally, their version was the only one to be sent in.

Peter Boström from Bassflow Productions produced the track in his studio near Stockholm.
