Herta Meyer-Riekenberg

Herta Meyer-Riekenberg (born July 4, 1910 in Neukloster ; † December 21, 1984 in Glinde ) was a German trade union official and since 1957 a long-time member of the board of directors of the German white-collar union (DAG) today ver.di , the Federal Insurance Agency for White-collar Workers (BfA ) and, temporarily as deputy chairwoman of the board, of the DAK .

Life

Herta Meyer-Riekenberg was the daughter of a post and finance official from Hanover . After attending a local lyceum and after completing a commercial training as well as professional practice in accounting, she began her work in the DAG in 1948 as a regional woman leader in the Lower Saxony regional association . In the following years she dealt in particular with issues relating to women, education, health and social policy. In 1957 she was elected head of the “Female Employee Department” and thus a member of the DAG board. She remained in this position until she retired in 1971.

In the same year, 1971, she received the Great Federal Cross of Merit for her social commitment .
