Herwarth von Bittenfeld (patrician)

Herwarth von Bittenfeld is the name of an old noble family that is one of the oldest urban noble families in the imperial city of Augsburg that are eligible for regiment .

history

The family first appeared in a document in 1246 with Conrad Herwart , Canon of Augsburg. The secure line of trunks begins in 1265 with Herbordus Herwart .

Between 1290 and 1368, the family provided the “Stadtpfleger” ( mayor ) in Augsburg a total of 14 times and had owned the Wellenburg Castle near Augsburg since 1348 , which is now owned by the Fugger family .

The brothers Jacob , Henry († 1481, progenitor of the "Augsburger line") and Lucas Herwart were on April 18, 1459 in (a document called 1427-1485) Wiener Neustadt in the kingdom knighthood collected and received their arms confirmation. The descendants of Lucas von Herwarth (progenitor of the "younger line") were accepted into the Swabian imperial knighthood of the canton Kocher after the acquisition of Bittenfeld ( Württemberg ) in 1574 .
