Hans Paulus Herwarth von Bittenfeld
Hans Paulus Herwarth von Bittenfeld (born January 12, 1800 in Halberstadt , † May 20, 1881 in Berlin ) was a Prussian officer , most recently a general of the infantry and governor of Magdeburg .
Life
origin
Hans Paulus came from the old Augsburg city noble family Herwarth von Bittenfeld , which was first mentioned in 1246. He was the son of the Prussian major general Johann Eberhard Ernst Herwarth von Bittenfeld (1753-1833) and his wife Johanna Friedericke Auguste, born von Arnstedt (1765-1851).
His brothers were the future General Field Marshal Karl Eberhard Herwarth von Bittenfeld and the General of the Infantry Friedrich Adrian Herwarth von Bittenfeld .
Military career
Herwarth von Bittenfeld joined the 2nd Guards Regiment on March 28, 1815 as a grenadier on foot , with which he took part in the march on Paris. On October 15, 1828 he was promoted to Premier Lieutenant , on April 14, 1834 to captain and on March 22, 1843 to major . After he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on April 19, 1851 , he took command of Infantry Regiment No. 31 on December 25 and rose to colonel on March 23, 1852 . On October 26, 1854 he became the commander of the Guard Grenadier Regiment "Tsar Alexander" . On August 14, 1856, he took command of the 9th Infantry Brigade and was promoted to major general on October 15 of the same year . On June 3, 1858, he was appointed commander of the 3rd Guard Infantry Brigade, and on June 14, 1859, he took over command of the Prussian occupation in Mainz .
On July 1, 1860, he rose to lieutenant general and became inspector of the garrisons of Mainz and Rastatt . In the further course of his military career he was appointed governor of Magdeburg on October 17, 1864 , and on September 20, 1866, he achieved the rank of general of the infantry. At his request, Herwarth von Bittenfeld was under award of Grand Commander of the Royal House Order of Hohenzollern on 8 April 1869 board for disposition made.

He was married to Mathilde Jeanette Louise Auguste Henriette Freiin von Sobeck and Kornitz (born January 17, 1803 in Berlin; † February 25, 1870 ibid) since June 22, 1823. She was the daughter of Peter von Sobeck and Kornitz (born September 19, 1773, † June 23, 1847), Lord on Krukow and granddaughter of Major General Karl Franz von Sobeck . The following children were born from the marriage:
