Karl Franz von Sobeck (born March 29, 1721 - † November 2, 1778 in Dresden ) was a German officer , most recently major general .

Life

Sobeck comes from an old Silesian family and joined the imperial "Neipperg Infantry Regiment" as a corporal in 1737 . In 1738 he went as a cadet in the Electoral Saxon "Infantry Regiment Sulkowsky" and fought against the Turks in Hungary . In 1741 he became an ensign and fought in the battle of Hohenfriedberg and Thrush . In 1745 he came to the "Leibgrenadiergarde" as a Premier-Lieutenant , became a captain in 1748 and a major in the Brühl infantry regiment in 1754 . After the surrender of the Saxon army at Pirna to the Prussians, he came into Prussian service.

He remained a major in the former Electoral Saxon regiment , now under the Prussian command of Friedrich von Wylich . On October 29, the regiment first moved to Torgau , but disbanded in the course of 1757, as the men refused to serve in a Prussian regiment and most of them deserted. Sobeck remained in the Prussian service and in the same year came as an adjutant to the Duke of Bevern . He was wounded in the foot in the Battle of Breslau . Before the battle of Leuthen he was given command of a regiment of volunteers with whom he advanced into the Neumark. On the day of the battle he was assigned to another former “Kalkreuth regiment on foot” from the Electorate of Saxony . After his recovery he was given a grenadier battalion in 1760. The battalion was formed from companies of the regiments (Prince Ferdinand) and (von der Goltz). The regiment was subordinated to General Fouque . In the Battle of Landeshut he was seriously injured again and was taken prisoner, but in 1762 he became a lieutenant colonel . In 1763 he remained in captivity in Bruck an der Leitha . After his release he was transferred to the Queis foot regiment (later No. 8). In 1764 he became a colonel and commander of the regiment. On November 27, 1768 he received the regiment on foot Sutterheim (later No. 30). On May 4, 1770, he was appointed major general. During the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778, the regiment was assigned to Prince Heinrich's army in Saxony. He died on November 2, 1778 in Dresden from flux river .

He was not only a military man, but also an eloquent statesman. He spoke several languages ​​including Russian. Therefore, Friedrich II brought him to Berlin in 1776 so that he could become a partner of Grand Duke Paul Petrovich .

Sobeck married in 1769 with a Magdalena Charlotte Friederike von Glasenapp (born January 6, 1744, † June 29, 1822). The couple had a son and two daughters.

The son's name was Peter Franz Heinrich (born September 19, 1773, † June 23, 1847). He inherited the fiefdoms and manors of Kruckow , Barkow , Bentzin , Zarrenthin, Leussin and Klinkenberg . He was married twice. His first wife was Jeanette von Jordan († 1805) and the second Luise von Heyden .

The daughter Karoline Sophie Juliane Friederike (* May 25, 1770; † December 20, 1847) married on October 13, 1797 in Zarrentin Karl Albrecht Helmuth von Maltzahn (* October 9, 1766; † May 22, 1832).
