history

Christianity is said to have come from northern Italy to the Engadine in the 10th century . In 1551 Samedan joined the Reformation . From 1860 the number of Catholics grew again, which made it necessary to have a separate church. In 2000 about 49% of the population belonged to the Reformed faith and about 39% to the Catholic faith.

The church was built in 1910 by Nicolaus Hartmann jun. (1880–1956) planned and built in 1911, who also planned other important hotel buildings and buildings for the Rhaetian Railway in the region, drawing on regional building styles and craft traditions as the basis for his planning.

In 2013 the church was renovated.
