Sacred Heart of Jesus

The Catholic Church of the Heart of Jesus is located in Wiesdorf , a district of Leverkusen .

history

The house of God is also known as the “City Church”. It was built according to the plans of the Langenfeld architect Bernhard Rotterdam . The consecration took place on October 5, 1929. The 45 m high brick tower, a symbol of the city after the Bayer Cross and the Water Tower, was not completed until the beginning of 1930. The nave is 60 m long and 17.50 m high. The interior was designed "location-conscious" in the style of an industrial workshop. The tall, slender arched windows in the south and west facade were designed by the Dutch artist Jan Thorn Prikker .

The parish of Herz Jesu and St. Antonius Wiesdorf, together with the parishes of Christ König Küppersteg and St. Stephanus (Bürrig), has formed the Wiesdorf-Bürrig-Küppersteg parish association since 2002, and since autumn 2009 as a parish community with a joint parish council. On January 1, 2012, these parishes merged to form the new parish of St. Stephanus, Leverkusen. Parish church is St. Stephen.

The organ was inaugurated on May 31, 1965. It was through the company originally in 1927 Klais for a holiday house of Bayer AG built and given away later to the community.
