The Hesteskoen (Norwegian for horse's hoof ) is a 2350 m high nunatak in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . It rises 6 km north of the Balchenfjella mountain in the Sør Rondane mountains .
Norwegian cartographers, who also named it, mapped it in 1946 using aerial photographs taken during the Lars Christensen Expedition in 1936/37 , and in 1957 using the same American Operation Highjump (1946–1947). It is named after the shape of the nunatak, which is reminiscent of a horse's hoof .
