Heterometrus sejnai is a Thai scorpion in the Scorpionidae family .

description

Adult animals are about 80 to 120 millimeters long and have a reddish-black basic color. The telson is reddish brown and the metasoma may be lighter than the body. The combs of the comb organ are yellow and have 13 to 14 teeth in both sexes. The proportions of the pedipalps show no sexual dimorphism . The chelae are slightly lobed and very hairy. The telson is hairy and spherical, with poisonous bladder and poisonous sting of equal length. There are individually standing short and long setae on the legs.

Heterometrus sejnai is similar to the species Heterometrus cyaneus , but differs from it in its smaller size. In addition, the distribution areas of the two species differ, Heterometrus cyaneus does not occur in Thailand.

distribution and habitat

The terra typica of Heterometrus sejnai is the Thale Ban National Park in the Satun Province in southern Thailand ( 6 ° 42 ′ 38 ″  N , 100 ° 10 ′ 7 ″  E ). The national park is located in the area of the Nakhon Si Thammarat mountain range directly on the border with Malaysia . The national park is characterized by a diverse fauna. Its vegetation consists partly of tropical rainforest, of deciduous forest and near the coast of mangrove forest . The highest point in the national park is around 750 meters above sea level.

Systematics

Initial description

The first description was made by František Kovařík as part of his 2004 revision of the genus Heterometrus .

Type material

The holotype is a 78 millimeter long male, the allotype is an equally long adult female. Three subadult offspring of the allotype were identified as paratypes. The allotype and the paratypes were still alive when the species was described and were kept by Kovařík in the terrarium. The type material is in the collection of František Kovařík in Prague.

etymology

The species name honors Vladimír Šejna from Prague, who collected the type specimens. After Šejna, Kovařík named the Vietnamese scorpion Euscorpiops sejnai in 2000 and Chaerilus sejnai from Malaysia in 2005 . For these species, Šejna had also collected and provided the type specimens.
