Hevisaurus is a Finnish heavy metal band that was formed in 2009. The band's target audience are children, which is why both the lyrics and the appearance of the band were designed to be child-friendly.
history
The band was formed in 2009 from a question asked by the then five-year-old son of metal musician Mirka Rantanen ( Thunderstone ). Together with friends, he put together a band consisting of four dinosaurs and a dragon . The major label Sony BMG was won as a partner for the publications, which released the debut album Jurahevin kuninkaat on October 17, 2009 . The album entered the Finnish charts, where it rose to number 5 over the following months. In addition, it was nominated for the Emma Award 2010 in the “Best Children's Album” category.
When performing live, five musicians are in dinosaur costumes. The drummer dinosaur is Mirka Rantanen. Who is in the remaining four costumes is kept secret. However, prominent Finnish musicians such as Henrik Klingenberg ( Sonata Arctica ), Jens Johansson ( Dio , Yngwie Malmsteen , Stratovarius ), Nino Laurenne (Thunderstone) and Mikko Salovaara ( Kiuas ) took part in the recording work for the album . The concerts usually take place in the afternoon and last a maximum of an hour. The volume of the music is a maximum of 85 decibels . Then the children can meet the dinosaurs for autographs.
In May and June 2010 the dinosaurs played in the musical Purppuramysteeri (Eng. Purpurnes Mysterium ), which tells a story about an adventure of the dinosaurs. The musical was created in cooperation with the Komediateatteri Arena, in whose theater the musical was also presented.
At the beginning of 2011, the band's founder Rantanen and the Sony label got into a dispute, whereupon the band broke up. Rantanen and three other members of the original line-up formed the band Sauruxet. Only the singer stayed with the label and played with new members under the name "Hevisaurus". Both bands have the same concept and more or less identical stage names and costumes.
After a few years Sony Music decided to implement the concept outside of Finland as well. An offshoot was founded in 2017 for German children. A year later, the sound carrier "Rock'n'Rarrr Music" was released with German lyrics. The name, presentation and songs of the Finnish original remained the same except for minor modifications ( Hevisaurus became Heavysaurus ).
