Rötger Feldmann (2006)

The Werner race took place on September 4th, 1988 at the Hartenholm airfield in the Schleswig-Holstein municipality of Hasenmoor . The comic author Rötger "Brösel" Feldmann competed on a motorcycle built especially for the race against the Kiel innkeeper Holger "Holgi" Henze in his red 1967 Porsche 911 . Henze won the race.

prehistory

1985 Rötger Feldmann had in his comic Werner - Eiskalt! , the fourth volume in the Werner series, deals with a bet between him and his friend Holger Henze. It was about a race in which Werner competed against Holgi's red Porsche 911 with the Red Porsche Killer , a self-built motorcycle powered by four Horex engines.

The Red Porsche Killer

The Red Porsche Killer

After the idea of turning this fiction into reality, it took Feldmann's friend Wolfgang "Ölfuß" Ußleber three years to build the Red Porsche Killer . Originally, the aim was to simply remove the gearboxes for the motorcycle from four of the Horex Regina's engines and connect the crankshafts to one another using chains . Ultimately, aluminum cylinders , crankshafts, connecting rods , bearings and crank webs were specially made for the machine. In addition, a Harley-Davidson transmission from drag racing and a Brembo brake system with three brake discs were installed. The engine has an output of 112 kW (152  hp ).

The total cost was DM 280,000 .

The racing weekend

Hartenholm Airfield

The original plan was to hold the race on a section of the 210 motorway between Kiel and Rendsburg , which was not yet opened at the time, but the organizers did not receive any approval for this. The actual venue was therefore Hartenholm Airport. Together with Hermann Joha , Feldmanns Verleger planned a three-day festival that took place on the first weekend in September 1988. BAP , Schroeder Roadshow , Torfrock and Roger Chapman played in the supporting program . There were also demonstrations of the Hell Driver Show, stunts with a truck from the Flensburg brewery , motorcycle rides on the high wire , bull riding , circus performances and the choice of the “most beautiful motorcycle without a valid TÜV stamp”.

Around 100,000 tickets were sold in advance. On the opening day, around 200,000 visitors from all over Germany actually arrived, which the organizers had not expected. This led to traffic jams and massive traffic delays on the A 7 and B 206 , which were made worse by the fact that Peter Maffay performed in the Bad Segeberg Kalkberg Stadium on the same day . There were traffic jams at the cash registers and entrances where the visitors were searched, and after loud protests the entrances were opened completely and every visitor, even without an entrance ticket, was allowed onto the event site.

The organizers commissioned the Moto-Clan MC Düsseldorf for the security service, which , however , asked the Bones MC Mannheim for support due to its relatively small number of members .

The race

The actual race went over 600 meters and lasted only 20 seconds. After Feldmann was ahead for the first 50 meters in his Red Porsche Killer , Henze won clearly in his Porsche, which had been tuned to 215 hp . Rötger Feldmann later explained that he had shifted and started in second instead of first gear and therefore tried several times during the race to shift into fourth gear without realizing that he had already engaged it. In addition, the legs had covered the intake pipes (quote: "Sniffle pieces") of the fourth engine, so that it got too little air.

aftermath

The overcrowding of the event site led to chaotic conditions. Some visitors camped in ditches. Because the waste disposal services could not reach the site to empty the 600 mobile toilets that had been set up , many people relieved themselves in the front gardens of residents. Cars and straw bales were burned down, and fires were lit at night with garden fences dismantled in the area.

Paramedics treated around 1,500 injured people, 20 of whom had to be hospitalized. A total of 1500 cubic meters of garbage remained on the site  , which took two weeks to remove. Hasenmoor's mayor at the time, Kurt Böge , said, according to the NDR : "The organizers are leaving - and our village remains shitty."

The organizer wanted to donate DM 25,000 to Greenpeace , but the organization refused because they did not want to have anything to do with the race, "which is a major burden on nature".

Rötger Feldmann processed the events in the 1988 book Werner - The Race .

New edition 2004

The dolmette

In September 2004 there was a new edition of the race at the Lausitzring . At the three-day festival, Torfrock and Roger Chapman performed in front of 30,000 visitors - as they did 16 years earlier - as well as the Puhdys , JBO , Apocalyptica , Motörhead , In Extremo and Dick Brave and the Backbeats , among others . Rötger Feldmann's brother Andi Feldmann came on the Dolmette , one built on ideas by crumbs motorcycle 24 Dolmar - chainsaw engines is driven against the Swiss racing driver Christina Surer in a Abt Audi AS400 on. He lost just like Rötger Feldmann, who stopped after a few meters after three attempts due to technical problems.

Second new edition since 2018

On May 12, 2017, it was announced in the Wach-Mittmann-Show on Radio Schleswig-Holstein that there would be a new edition of the race for the 30th anniversary. This took place from August 30th to September 2nd, 2018 at Hartenholm Airport .

As 30 years before, the 67 Porsche 911 competed against the Red Porsche Killer , which, however, was further developed with modern technology by Rötger's brother Andi. The fourth engine got (quote) "Umbiegungsnüffelstücke" - in typical Werner slang, this stands for intake pipes pointing backwards, which can no longer be covered by the driver's legs. Rötger Feldmann won the race on the 200 meter long track after a good ten seconds.

At the same time, drag races , stock car races and motocross competitions were held on four racetracks . As 30 years before, Niedeckens BAP and Torfrock as well as Otto & the Friesenjungs and Doro provided the musical supporting program on four stages . In addition, 100 snack, beverage and merchandise stalls as well as a ferris wheel were set up. The entry price was 150 euros. It is planned to hold the Werner Race as a regular event. The second edition of the event took place between August 29 and September 1, 2019, and around 45,000 visitors were present.
