Hexyllithium (more precisely n -hexyllithium) is a chemical compound from the group of organolithium compounds .
Extraction and presentation
Hexyllithium can be obtained, among other things, by reacting an alkyl halide such as 1-chlorohexane with lithium in an inert organic liquid.
properties
Hexyllithium is a pyrophoric colorless viscous liquid that reacts violently with water. It is marketed as a solution in n -hexane .
use
Hexyllithium has similar properties to n -butyllithium and can therefore be used for similar organic syntheses. One advantage is that it does not form any gaseous by-products during deprotonation reactions and hydrolysis .
