description

Vegetative characteristics

Hieracium parryi is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 15 to 45 centimeters, sometimes even more. The stems are stalked and glandular as well as covered with fine and coarse 0.1 to 0.3 cm long hair and also have a rough and glandular hairy base.

There are no or up to five basal leaves at the base of the stem , while there are two to eight leaves on the stem. The leaf blade is at a length of 3 to 10 cm and a width of 0.3 to 3 centimeters lanceolate-elliptical to lanceolate with wedge-shaped Spreitenbasis and obtuse to acute Spreitenspitze. The spreading margins are usually whole, but occasionally also serrated. Both the underside and the upper side of the leaf are covered with fine and coarse 0.1 to 0.3 centimeter long hairs, more rarely hairless.

Generative characteristics

The flowering period includes the months of June and July. The umbrella-like total inflorescence usually contains one to twelve or more cup-shaped partial inflorescences. The inflorescence shaft is densely covered with glandular and stalked hair. With a size of 1 to 1.2 centimeters, the bell-shaped involucre contains 13 to 21, occasionally more on the underside glandular hairy bracts with more or less pointed tips. The flower heads contain 30 to 60 or more ray florets. The yellow ray florets are 0.9 to 1.1 inches long.

The achenes are columnar with a length of 0.25 to 0.3 centimeters. The pappus consists of 50 to 60 or more white bristle hairs, which are about 0.5 centimeters long.

Occurrence

Hieracium parryi is found in the western part of the United States only in the states of California and Oregon .

Hieracium parryi thrives at altitudes of 10 to 2000 meters in open locations in bushes, on grass-covered slopes and along serpentines .

Taxonomy

It was first described as Hieracium parryi in 1922 by Karl Hermann Zahn in Adolf Engler's Das Pflanzenreich , Volume 79, pages 1128 to 1129.
