Hilda Crozzoli (born August 16, 1900 in Salzburg ; † August 10, 1972 there ) was Austria's first female builder and civil engineer.

Life

Hilda Crozzoli came from a Friulian master builder family who had a major influence on building activities in Salzburg for several generations. Her father was Ambrogio (Ambros) Crozzoli (* July 31, 1870 in Tramonti di Sopra , † August 11, 1925 in Cimpello near Pordenone ), married to Lucia Antonia Santarossa since 1882 (* July 12, 1871 in Fiume Veneto , † 7. October 1957 in Salzburg). On February 12, 1907, he took the so-called citizenship oath for himself and his family and on January 5, 1915, he received the right to live in the Maxglan community . It is noteworthy that his wife never learned German and only spoke Italian.

Hilda was the fourth of seven children, the two older brothers having died very early, leaving five girls. After elementary and community school, she completed the four-year construction school at the State Trade School in Salzburg and successfully passed the exam in 1921. There she was the first female graduate since the state trade school's construction department was founded. In addition, on August 1, 1917, she joined her father's company as an apprentice. In addition to working in her father's company, she also worked for city architect Josef Cwertschek in Schneegattern and Vienna . From March 1, 1921 to August 11, 1925, she worked as a construction technician and construction foreman in her father's company. From July 1, 1926, she was posted to Universale Baugesellschaft mbH in Salzburg. From May 12 to 14, 1927, she passed the master builder examination in Klagenfurt . This found a corresponding response in the Salzburg media and the Association of German Austrian Engineers also sent congratulations.

In 1928 Hilda Crozzoli started her own business as a builder. Josef Sindinger was her companion until 1929, from 1929 the architect Richard Bandian, her later husband (marriage on February 1, 1934). In 1934 Hilda Crozzoli and her construction company moved to Reichenhallerstraße 19a (today Reichenhaller Straße 27).

As a construction technician in her father's company, Hilda Crozzoli was in charge of the construction management for the conversion of the Hofstall barracks into a natural history museum (today Haus der Natur Salzburg ). In the catalog raisonné of the Crozzoli-Bandian company that has been compiled so far, 65 buildings are named that were erected between 1928 and 1966 under its management. Of this, the establishment of the so-called welfare settlement in Schallmoos should be emphasized in 1927/28 . After the end of the war, in 1945 the company repaired the structural damage to Schloss Leopoldskron , and rebuilt the Hotel zum Goldenen Hirschen (1945/46) and the Daghofer bank (1968); She also carried out the reconstruction of the Wallis tract of the residence for the University of Salzburg in 1965 .
