history

Hildegardis School (2012)

The school was founded in 1920 by Sister Thusnelda Mölleney, who had received approval from the city of Münster to set up a women's school. Mölleney belonged to the order of the Sisters of Divine Providence , which supported the Hildegardis School for 75 years. The school building was initially on Bohlweg. The Hildegardis School was very popular, so that in 1926 it became the first women's high school in Prussia . The first Abitur was completed by 18 students in 1929. It entitles them to various courses of study, including a. for teacher training. During the National Socialist dictatorship, religious were no longer allowed to teach, which led to a reduction in the number of pupils and finally to the closure of the school in 1942. In 1946 the school was reopened under the direction of Sister Franzinis Braun on Ostmarkstrasse in makeshift buildings. Again, the number of pupils grew strongly, so that in 1959 the school had to be rebuilt. Since then, the Hildegardis School has been at its current location. The Hildegardis School has been supporting a partner school in Bacabal in northeastern Brazil since 1968 . For this purpose, an annual solidarity day takes place, the proceeds of which go to work in Brazil.

Originally founded as a purely women's school, male students have also been taught since 1972, and male teachers since 1974. In 1994 the Hildegardisschule changed to the sponsorship of the diocese of Münster. The religious order was no longer able to support such a large school system. In 1998 the school was transformed into a vocational college for the Münster diocese. The school is named after Hildegard von Bingen . The title of her main work “Scivias” (“Know the ways”) is part of the school's logo. The Lycée Louis Couffignal in Strasbourg has been visited once a year since 2003, and regular contacts with the Polish Vocational College, Economics Lyceum and Technical Center in Starogard Gdański, have existed since 2007. On September 19, 2012, the Hildegardis School received the school development award “Good Healthy School”, which is under the patronage of School Minister Sylvia Löhrmann.
