Hildegund Gropengiesser

Hildegund Gropengiesser (born January 15, 1928 - † June 16, 2019 in Heidelberg ) was a German classical archaeologist .

Hildegund Gropengiesser, daughter of the Mannheim archaeologist and grammar school teacher Hermann Gropengießer , received her doctorate in the fall of 1958 with the thesis On the fragments of plant-based ornamental acroters of classical temples at the University of Heidelberg . In 1958/1959 she was able to travel to the Mediterranean as the holder of the travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute . In 1959/1960 she took part in the excavation campaign of the German Archaeological Institute in Olympia and worked on the finds together with Erika Götte afterwards. At Roland Hampe , she worked at the Archaeological Institute of Heidelberg University, where she was primarily responsible for the collection of antiquities . Until her retirement in 1992 she was custodian of the Antikensammlung and employee of the Heidelberg Collection of Antiquities , her successor being Hermann Pflug . Until her retirement, she was initially co-editor with Roland Hampe, then with Tonio Hölscher, of the catalogs of the collection of ancient cabaret at the Archaeological Institute of Heidelberg University . Gropengiesser was a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute and since 1982 a member of the Berlin Archaeological Society .
