Hildeward (Naumburg-Zeitz)

Hildeward († August 3, 1030 ) was the fourth bishop of the Zeitz diocese from 1003 to 1030 . Under Hildeward the bishopric was moved from Zeitz to Naumburg .

Life

Hildeward's origin is unknown. The assignment of Hildeward as counts of Gleißenberg or of Schwarzburg , the z. B. Petrus Albinus made, can not be proven in older writings.

Giselher von Magdeburg consecrated him in 1003 as bishop of the Zeitz diocese , as which in 1004 he re-incorporated the areas acquired in 981 through the dissolution of the Merseburg diocese through its re-establishment by Heinrich II .

When the Merseburger Sprengels were re-established, the older places under the Rippach and on the Saale , assigned to the Zeitz diocese , also came into Merseburg ownership. In return, Hildeward received the western villages of Kretzschau, Greifen and Groitschen for the Diocese of Zeitz. He often represented the interests of his diocese at the royal courts of Heinrich II. And Konrad II .

He was also present when Thietmar von Merseburg was ordained on April 24, 1009 in Neuburg an der Donau, elected and reinstalled Waltard as Archbishop of Magdeburg on June 22, 1012, and was at his death on August 12 Present in Giebichenstein in 1012. In December 1015 he transferred the body of Eido I from Leipzig to Meißen, where it was buried. During his term of office, however, one fact particularly stands out that seems to be unique in German church history: The transfer of the bishopric in 1028 from Zeitz to Naumburg , which can be traced back to the instigation of Hermann I of Meißen and Ekkehard II of Meißen . As a result, Konrad II moved the diocese to Naumburg to protect the bishopric from the Wends , since the Ekkehardians laid out the place as a defensive area in the founding phase .
