The sky florets ( Silene coeli-rosa ) is a plant of the genus Silene ( Silene ) in the family of the Pink family (Caryophyllaceae).

Vegetative characteristics

The celestial rose is an annual herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 30 to 70 centimeters. The above-ground parts of the plant are bare. The constantly against the stems arranged leaves are linear-lanceolate and light or gray-green.

Generative characteristics

The inflorescence is loose and not densely flowered. The flowers are radially symmetrical with a diameter of up to 4 centimeters . The calyx is 1.5 to 2.8 inches long. The calyx teeth are splayed and pointed long. The calyx is somewhat constricted at the tip at the fruit time. The petals have two columns and are one color, pink, red, violet-blue or white, with varieties the throat can be lighter or darker.

The fruit stalks are upright. The capsule fruit is 7 to 17 millimeters long. The carpophor is 5 to 12 millimeters long and bald.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.

Occurrence

The celestial rose is found in southwest Europe , northwest Africa, and the Canary Islands . It thrives on dry slopes and in bushes.

Systematics

The first publication took place in 1753 under the name ( Basionym ) Agrostemma coeli-rosa by Carl von Linné . The new combination for Silene coeli-rosa (L.) Godr. was published in 1847 by Dominique Alexandre Godron . Other synonyms for Silene coeli-rosa (L.) Godr. are: Coronaria coeli-rosa (L.) Fr. ex Heynh. , Eudianthe coeli-rosa (L.) Endl. , Pontinia coeli-rosa (L.) Fr. , Lychnis coeli-rosa (L.) Desr. , Lychnidia coeli-rosa (L.) Pomel .

Within the large genus Silene is Silene coeli-rosa in the section Eudianthe (Aiton) Godr. posed, which is sometimes called a separate genus Eudianthe (Rchb.) Rchb. is seen.

The celestial rose is widely used as an ornamental plant for summer flower beds and borders, and as a cut flower . The celestial rose has been in culture since at least 1687 .
