Hinn íslenski Þursaflokkur og Caput -

Hinn íslenski Þursaflokkur og Caput is the sixth music album and second live album by the Icelandic progressive rock band Þursaflokkurinn . It was recorded in February 2008 in Höllinn, Iceland and has been distributed in small numbers as a CD-DVD combination by the Icelandic company Sena since November 2008.

overview

The concert was performed for the band's thirtieth anniversary and contains at least one to seven pieces of music from each of the albums. The bombastic sound created by the orchestra Caput and the return of long-time bassoonist Rúnar Vilbergsson is particularly evident in the pieces originally from the rather minimalist and New Wave- oriented album Gæti eins verið ... ; some lesser-known songs that are not on the CD can be found on the DVD and have even more elaborate arrangements, e.g. a. with the conductor Guðni Franzson as a didgeridoo player or with the guest singer Ragnheiður Gröndal. In addition to the songs published on the albums, there are also three pieces from Égill Ólafsson's soundtrack to the musical Grettir as well as a quarter-hour overture by the orchestra, which interweaves excerpts from the pieces of music into a kind of suite.

Outstanding pieces of music would be u. a. the first piece, Ranimosk , is a dark and instrumentally played march, which in the orchestral version has jazzy structures and is very reminiscent of symphonic progressive rock . The folk song Brúðskaupssálmur from the Þursabit album has become a trance-like vocal piece based on modal scales with the addition of the didgeridoo, with Grafcript from the debut album Hinn íslenzki Þursaflokkur by Égill Ólafsson's orchestral performance very reminiscent of classical music.

The short rock 'n' roll piece Jón var kræfur karl og hraustur by bassist Tómas Tómasson, which was originally released on the live album Á hljómleikum , can also be found here on the DVD as an encore.

Behind the song Draumasöngur Grettis is the piece Harley Davidson , which can also be heard on the compilation Ókomin forneskjan .
