reception

The album Hinterhofjargon reached number 8 in the German album charts. In Austria, the album entered the album charts at number 29. In Switzerland Celo & Abdi reached number 13 in the charts.

According to Max Brandl from laut.de , backyard jargon is a “mix of, among other things, French, English, Turkish and Italian, stretched with various Eastern Bloc bonds that I cannot identify in any more detail, and blended with a trunk load of ticker speech. In other words: Wood chips German in the best Bahnhofsviertel color. ”Rap.de praises the album as“ Pure authenticity paired with the right shot of madness ”.

Together with their label boss, Haftbefehl, Celo and Abdi were criticized in Welt Online for combining "anti-imperialist symbolism with Nazi coquetry". In addition, anti-Semitism is eminently present in her texts , which is hidden behind an anti-Zionist self - portrayal. For example, they declared their solidarity with Palestine and celebrated “anti-Semitism in the Feyenoord fan block” in a song . Her first album was also advertised with the abbreviation HJ . This abbreviation commonly stands for Hitler Youth . Celo described the allegations of right-wing radicalism in an interview as "nonsense". Criticism of Israel would be limited to the state and not extended to one faith. Rather, in his opinion, “both Israelis and Palestinians have the right to their own state”.
