The Hinterland Jazz Orchestra was founded in 2008 as a quintet by Charly Mutschler (trumpet & band leader) with four other musicians in Holzhausen (Dautphetal) . Today the Hinterland Jazz Orchestra is a big entertainment big band with singing, whose band members come from the entire Hessian hinterland and the neighboring districts. It offers all genres from swing to pop . As part of the concert series "Swinging Christmas & Strings", the line-up is expanded to include a string group (violins and cello).

Since then the Hinterland Jazz Orchestra has played well over a hundred performances and concerts. In addition to its musical versatility, the orchestra also performs in various smaller ensembles. Special concerts and specially written arrangements have been a trademark of the band since 2014.
Since 2012, the group has played regular national appearances and concerts in several large cities such as Wiesbaden and Kassel as well as medium-sized and smaller cities and communities (including Marburg, Wetzlar, Biedenkopf, Dietzenbach, Wettenberg, Dillenburg, Lich) and in the neighboring state of North Rhine-Westphalia. She was also represented several times at the Hessentag. The big band has been running its own label since 2015 under the name "hinterland jazz productions" for worldwide distribution, downloading and streaming of their productions (Aabaa Records Hamburg).
From the summer of 2014, the Hinterland Jazz Orchestra gained greater fame through regular radio broadcasts of their songs in Germany (including WDR, HR, EDR), Austria and Switzerland, as well as the publication of the orchestral EM-2016 song "So Sieger aus (Jogis Jungs) ", which is published by BMG. Charly Mutschler composed the song in 1999 as a stadium anthem for VFB Stuttgart (band "Hazy Shade", published by Koch Music in 2000). The song is now one of the most sung football classics. In 2011 it was used for a TV commercial for the Skoda car brand.
history
The idea for the quintet, which was still called the Karl Keller Band at the time , came about at Charly Mutschler's birthday party on April 30, 2008 in Holzhausen. The first rehearsal on May 2nd, 2008 took place in the basement of Hans Wolf (drums) together with other musicians, namely Jochen Wagner (trumpet), Birgit Gillmann (keyboard) and Thomas Vielhauer (electric bass).
The first appearance took place on September 13, 2008 in an old barn in Holzhausen with a repertoire of 6 titles. Small cellars and old barns, of which there are some in the Hessian hinterland, were then the hip venues in autumn / winter 2008. Gradually, more and more musicians joined the band, which thus became a small orchestra. At the end of 2010 the original band name was renamed Hinterland Jazz Orchestra and the current formation was created.
In 2012, a project funding jury from the Marburg-Biedenkopf district committee recognized the founding of the big band Hinterland Jazz Orchestra as particularly eligible for funding.

social commitment
The Hinterland Jazz Orchestra has been committed to social projects and associations with its concerts since it was founded. It worked u. a. at the charity festival "Hinterland Live 2009" (complete proceeds to the "Project Eisvogel" of NABU Dautphetal), the "People for Children" tour 2011 at Aartalsee (total tour totaling 166,700 euros) and gave charity concerts (2014) for the children and Balthasar youth hospice in Olpe, the parents' initiative for children with leukemia and tumors in Marburg eV (2017) and for the Bad Berleburg-Erndtebrücker Tafelverein eV (2019).
The "Swinging Christmas & Strings" concert series of the Hinterland Jazz Orchestra, which has been held regularly at Christmas time since 2016, serves, among other things, to support social associations (previously the Epidermolysis Bullosa Association - DEBRA Germany and SamburuHilfe - Association against Hunger and Environmental Destruction eV).
