Hippolyte Auger

Hippolyte Auger (born May 25, 1797 in Auxerre , Yonne department , † January 5, 1881 in Menton , Alpes-Maritimes department ) was a French novelist and theater poet.

Auger wrote many of his works under the pseudonyms : A. Saint-Hippolyte and Gérau .

Hippolyte Auger died at the age of 83 on January 5, 1881 in Menton, where he found his final resting place.

reception

Auger's most important work is his five-volume story about the development of the theater landscape in Paris, “La physiologie du théâtre”, which he was able to publish between 1839 and 1840. His plays and novels were more devoted to the zeitgeist and then soon disappeared again.
