Hjalmar Kiærskou

Hjalmar Frederik Christian Kiærskou (born August 6, 1835 in Copenhagen ; † March 18, 1900 ), sometimes also given as Hjalmar Kiaerskov , was a Danish botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is “ Kiaersk. ".

Life

Hjalmar Kiærskou was the son of the landscape painter Frederik Christian Jakobsen Kiærskou (1805-1891). In 1862 he graduated with a master's degree in natural sciences. In 1861 he worked at the Botanical Garden in Copenhagen , first as an assistant and then from 1875 to 1883 as a librarian. In 1873 he married his cousin Margrethe Olivia Gindrup. In 1883 he became an inspector at the Botanical Museum. From 1869 to 1893 he was editor of the journal "Botanisk Tidsskrift". From 1882 to 1889 he was a teacher at the Monrad'ske course at Danmarks Lærerhøjskole in Copenhagen. In 1882 he was a lecturer at the Polytechnic School. From 1876 to 1883 he worked in the chemical laboratory of Sigfred Frederik Edvard Valdemar Stein .

Kiærskou described several plant taxas from the families of the loosestrife and the myrtle family , especially from Spain , the West Indies and from Brazil . Together with Samsøe Lund, he published a monograph on the cultivated forms of cabbage , turnips and rape .
