The Hobrink (always with article) is a village in the municipality of Hüllhorst in the Minden-Lübbecke district .

The Hobrink is not a separate district, but forms the western cornerstone of the old community (today the community part) Hüllhorst , on the border with the old communities Ahlsen-Reineberg in the north and Büttendorf in the south. The Hobrink consists of only one 500 meter long road of the same name, that of the Nachtigallental , more precisely from the Alte Strasse at an acute angle at an altitude of 107  m above sea level. NN branches off, first westwards, then northwards to a height of 114  m above sea level. NN brings up. The road, with it the village, ends formally with the confluence of the Trifteweg at about 120  m above sea level. NN . Often, however, the Schütte farm north of it is still included in the village. At the northern end of the village there is a stately courtyard, which is now the settlement's only full-time farm . On the Hobrink there is a trigonometric point that is important for the national survey on a house that has meanwhile burned down (height 114). In addition to agriculture , which in addition to some cattle breeding, mainly breeds pigs and cultivates grain, the service sector with a window cleaning company is important. A horticultural business that had flourished for several years ceased operations in the late 1990s. Most of the residents are commuters who work outside the village. The Hobrink is still within the Northern Teutoburg Forest-Wiehengebirge Nature Park , the southern border of which runs along the old road .

Culture

A highlight of the year is when the cattle are driven up from the summer pasture into the stables of the farm, with all of the village youth helping the farmer.

Surname

The Hobrink probably got its name from the impression of a comparatively high location when approaching from the south. Brink is a common Germanic word that has been used in geographical names since the early Middle Ages to designate a slightly elevated point on a border or a coast. The Brink was in many villages in north and north-east Germany a slightly elevated point near the village, which is undoubtedly also true for the Hobrink. These settlement areas were of inferior quality in terms of soil and were mostly unprotected - but this is less the case for the Hobrink, because the fields around the Hobrink are of high quality. Significantly, many mountains in the nearby Wiehengebirge also have the phrase -brink in their name ( Heidbrink , Kniebrink , Wurzelbrink, etc.). Therefore, in view of the supposedly high location in comparison to the rest of the municipality, one says, for example, less “He lives in Hobrink” or “in the Hobrink” than “He lives on the Hobrink” .

history

Up until the territorial reform in 1973, the Hobrink and parts of the "Lage" formed an enclave of the community of Ahlsen-Reineberg. Since then, however, it has been part of the Huellhorst district. The former enclave status can u. a. still read from the course of the cadastral areas.
