The Hochkopf is a wooded ridge north of Todtmoos in the southern Black Forest . The summit is 1263.5  m above sea level. NHN among the 20 highest elevations in Baden-Württemberg .

The border between Todtmoos and the Todtnau district of Präg and thus also between the districts of Lörrach and Waldshut runs across the mountain . As a mountain ridge running east-west, the Hochkopf delimits the Präger glacier basin on its south side. About the there sloping Karwänden the ridges are partly sharpened gratartig.

The area around the Hochkopf is considered to be particularly quiet. A small observation tower called the Hochkopfturm was built on the summit of the Hochkopf in 1925 . To the southwest of the summit is the Weißenbachsattel (1082 m), over which the L 151 leads as a connection from the Wiesental into the Wehratal . The Westweg long-distance hiking trail (eastern variant) run by the Black Forest Association also runs here ; the Hochkopfhaus located here , formerly a hikers' home of the Black Forest Association, is now the private Hotel Auerhahn , a possible stage destination on the long-distance hiking trail.

In inversion weather conditions, there is a clear view of the Alps from the Zugspitze to Mont Blanc from up here. The Hochkopf is therefore also sought out as an alternative to the frequently overcrowded peaks of Feldberg and Belchen .
