High season
In tourism, the annual cycle is divided into high season (also: high season or main travel season ) and low season depending on the number of tourists at a certain holiday destination. In a year, several high and low seasons can alternate one after the other.
The high season is the season in which a particularly large number of tourists flock to a holiday destination. On the one hand, this is due to general holidays ( school holidays , company holidays of large companies, public holidays ) in the home country of the tourists. As a result, the summer months of July and August and the weeks around Christmas and New Year are practically high season in the northern hemisphere .
On the other hand, most vacation spots have certain times that are particularly worth coming, depending on e.g. B. on the climate ( winter sports resorts in winter , seaside resorts in summer , city trips often spring or autumn ) or certain events ( Oktoberfest in Munich ).
The low season refers to all times outside the high season.
The division into high and low seasons mainly affects the prices for hotels , flight tickets , etc. (high season is more expensive) as well as the availability of tourist facilities (some hotels close in low season).
In tourist practice, travel times are often further refined ( mid- season or post-season , weekly increments) in order to be able to react even better to changes in the market .
