The University Radio Aachen is a radio station operated by students in Aachen . The University Radio Aachen is terrestrial in the Aachen city area on the VHF frequency 99.1 MHz, in the cable networks of Unitymedia and NetAachen on the frequency 95.35 MHz and on the Internet via stream via its own homepage. The station Rütscher Straße broadcasts the program via VHF.

The program is aimed at students and employees of Aachen universities: RWTH Aachen , FH Aachen , KatHo Aachen and the Aachen department of the University of Music Cologne .

program

The University Radio Aachen broadcasts live from the studio on Wüllnerstrasse for several hours a day.

The main components of the moderated word program are the 3-hour slot broadcasts on workdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. as well as the special-interest programs Melodien für Melaten (chart show), KinoClash (cinema), fan culture (sports), playground (video games), stoppage time ( Football) and Schlaflos in Aachen (pastoral care). In addition, music-themed programs cover a wide range of different genres.

history

The start of broadcasting was preceded by a long planning phase. The university radio received its broadcasting license on March 24, 2006. On the following day, the station could already be received via the Internet stream. In order to ensure smooth operation right from the start, both the technology and the moderators were trained in a test run lasting several weeks.

On May 3, 2006, the university radio was finally allowed to broadcast on the VHF frequency. The allocation of the frequency was lengthy due to the close proximity to Belgium and the Netherlands , as the frequencies had to be coordinated with the frequency allocation there.

On March 30, 2007, the potential audience increased by 70,000 people. When the program was fed into the cable network, the Aachen university radio also became receivable in Kornelimünster and Würselen .

organization

The University Radio Aachen is supported by the Hochschulradio Aachen e. V. managed. Both the program and the entire organization are carried out on a voluntary basis by students. These share the work in different working groups such as B. word or music editing, technology or press work. Financing is provided by the RWTH Aachen student body . The sponsoring association is financed by a share of 0.50 euros per semester of the RWTH student body contribution.
