The Benhausen flood retention basin is a retention basin on the Gottebach near Paderborn - Benhausen in the catchment area of the Pader , a tributary of the Lippe . By dampening the flood peaks, it should essentially protect the Paderborn district of Schloss Neuhaus . Politically, it is located in the district of Paderborn in Detmold in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The Benhausen flood retention basin of the Obere Lippe water association is a dry basin in which there is normally no water and has a combination structure for flood relief and bottom drainage . The railway embankment on the Paderborn – Altenbeken line serves as a dam , a fill made of a mixture of rock and clay , which has an additional clay seal on the water side. The dam is approx. 300 m long and up to 12.5 m high.
