The Hodgson River is a river in the north of the Australian territory Northern Territory . The river name goes back to Ludwig Leichhardt, a Prussian explorer in Australia.

Surname

Ludwig Leichhardt named the Hodgson River in 1845 on his first expedition to Australia from 1844 to 1845 after Christopher Pemberton Hodgson , an explorer, writer and diplomat who had to leave the expedition prematurely on October 1, 1844.

River course

The river has its source approximately 30 km east of Scarlett Hill and flows northeast to Nutwood Downs . There it turns its course to the north and runs roughly parallel to the Hodgson River Road to the settlements of Minyerri and Hodgson Downs , where it meets the road directly. It turns northeast and flows into the Roper River at Roper Bar .
