description

The oval-shaped hill above the village of Neuhausen, which belongs to the foreland of the central Swabian Alb , has a diameter of 300 to 500 meters and towers over its immediate surroundings by around 150 meters.

geology

The Hofbühl is one of the approx. 350 volcanic vents in the Urach-Kirchheimer volcanic area. The summit area consisting of volcanic basalt tuff is more resistant than the Brown Jura surrounding the Härtling . This volcanic vent with an oval shape and a diameter of 300–500 meters was created in the Upper Miocene period (approx. 17–11 million years ago) in the course of the activity of the Swabian volcano . In a forest section to the west on the north slope is an approx. 10 meter long "sand pit" with 1 to 2 meters thick exposed basalt tuff, which encloses limestone blocks the size of a fist.

natural reserve

The Hofbühl is part of the landscape protection area Reutlinger and Uracher Alb with the protection area number 4.15.135 and embedded in the maintenance zone of the biosphere area Swabian Alb . In addition, the summit area of the Hofbühl volcanic vent is protected as a geotope over a length of 200 meters and a width of 150 meters .

Fallen memorial

The memorial was erected after 1918 for members of the Neuhausen Free Gymnastics Association who fell in World War I. Memorial and name inscriptions can be seen on two granite tablets on a semicircular wall base.
