Günter Künkele

Günter Künkele (* 1951 in Seeburg (Bad Urach) ) is a German conservationist and former teacher.

Life

Künkele worked as a secondary school teacher in Bad Urach . Until 2007 he was chairman of the Alb-Neckar Nature Conservation Federation (BNAN) for twelve years . With Gerhard Feucht he organized the maintenance of the landscape on meadows in the Swabian Alb . In particular, he advocated the designation of the former Münsingen military training area as a biosphere reserve . He was one of the few civilians who were allowed to enter the military training area at the time. Künkele contributed to the fact that a power line planned in the 1990s was not built on the Swabian Alb. In 1992 he implemented a state-wide regulation of rock climbing for Baden-Württemberg. He is a nature conservation officer in the Reutlingen district .

On January 29, 2005 Günter Künkele received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon. Friedlinde Gurr-Hirsch paid tribute to Künkeles' services to nature conservation: "Your work has made a significant contribution to preserving nature and the landscape in the Swabian Alb."
