Hubert Frasnelli (born November 2, 1944 in Meran ) is an Italian politician from South Tyrol .

Life

Frasnelli studied chemistry at the University of Göttingen , obtained his doctorate in 1970 with a dissertation on lithium diazoacetic acid ethyl ester and then worked in the South Tyrolean regional service.

He was one of the founders of the workers' wing of the South Tyrolean People's Party (SVP), which he represented in the Italian Chamber of Deputies from 1979 to 1983 . From 1983 to 1998 he was a member of the regional council of Trentino-South Tyrol and the South Tyrolean state parliament , where, with a short break in 1993 and 1994, he was the parliamentary group leader of his party. In 1992 Frasnelli ran for the post of SVP party chairman, but was defeated by Siegfried Brugger . From 1979 to 1998 he was a member of the SVP party leadership and from 1987 to 1991 and from 1994 to 1997 deputy party chairman.

In the 1990s, Frasnelli caused a sensation through harsh criticism of the media power of the Athesia printing and publishing group, which was dominated by the Ebner family and closely associated with the SVP . After he had urged all eco-social forces to form a joint, strong opposition before the state elections in 1998, an internal party arbitration court decided to suspend Frasnelli's party membership and office for three years. In response, Frasnelli left the SVP in 1999.

Frasnelli later became involved as a member of the Social Democratic Party of Austria in Austrian politics, where he campaigned in particular for the rights of the Carinthian Slovenes . In the Italian parliamentary elections in 2006 he ran on the list of the Greens .
