The Hog Hill is a hill of mud Foothills . It lies on the northwestern edge of the range of hills. Its 434 m high crest is in the Scottish Council Area Midlothian . There are two hills called Hog Hill in the Moorfoot Hills. The present hill is not to be confused with the southwestern Hog Hill in the Scottish Borders .
About five kilometers southwest of the Hog Hills is the village of Eddleston on Eddleston Water , which marks the western edge of the Moorfoot Hills. The small town of Penicuik at the foot of the Pentland Hills is around ten kilometers to the northwest.
Surroundings
Along its eastern flank runs the upper reaches of the South Esk , which is dammed to the north, at the foot of the Hog Hills, to the Gladhouse Reservoir . Various creeks that rise on the slopes of the Hog Hills flow into the South Esk. The surrounding hills include the Dundreich in the south and The Kipps in the southeast.
Traces of settlement can be found on the north flank of Hog Hill. Between Hog Hill and The Kipps are the ruins of Tower House Hirendean Castle . Sand and gravel were once mined on the west flank of the hill.
