The Hohe Student ( 1539 m above sea level ) is a mountain in the Styrian part of the Mürzsteg Alps .
It is part of the main Alpine ridge , which continues east over the Freinsattel ( 1106 m ) to Wildalpe ( 1523 m ) and south over the Höhenreithalm ( 1169 m ) to Fallenstein ( 1536 m ). The valley location is Halltal in the Salzatal (Halltal) to the north . The Hohe Student has a multi-peak, widely ramified plateau. The most prominent secondary peaks are the Haselspitz ( 1534 m , with a large summit cross) and the Studentleiten ( 1511 m ). On the plateau there is also the not managed Studentalm . The mountain name Student from the Slavic studena ('cold water') can be derived from it.
The wide view from the peaks and the splendor of the alpine flora on the plateau make the Hohe Student a popular hiking destination. Marked hiking trails lead from the village of Halltal over the Kampltörl and from the homestead Aunbauer in the Halltal over the Freinsattel to the Student (2½ hours each).
The name goes back to the Slovenian studenec (source, well).
