The Hohenstaufenring Square is a square in Berlin district of Kreuzberg on Kottbusser Damm , near the subway station Schönleinstraße . The place is also called Zickenplatz in Berlin vernacular , as goats used to graze here . A weekly market takes place on the square every Tuesday from 12 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
history
In 1875 the square was laid out by paving. The square was named on February 27, 1889 after Hohenstaufen Castle , which was the ancestral seat of the noble family of Staufer . In 1895 one was in the square urinal built, but later became a snack was converted and now under monument stands.
description
Hohenstaufenplatz is characterized by its rectangular shape. In the middle of the square is a playground in the form of a sand pit. Around the playground, paved paths are divided into the design of the square through the greenery. To the east, the square opens up through greenery and paths to Kottbusser Damm. At the southeast corner of the square there is also the facility that has been converted into a snack bar. On the western side, the square is opened up by two ball courts and expanded by a traffic-calmed street where the weekly markets take place. The Schönleinstraße acts here as the border of the square. There are also single-row parking spaces around the square .
