Society for the maintenance of rail vehicles
The Society for the Preservation of Rail Vehicles ( GES ) is one of the oldest associations in Germany that operates museum railways with historical train sets. GES is based in Stuttgart .
Emergence
The association was founded on December 8, 1965 and originally consisted of a group of tram enthusiasts within the Verkehrsfreunde Stuttgart eV association , who had dedicated themselves to the maintenance and care of the last remaining railcar No. 126 of the former Filderbahn and other historically valuable tram vehicles . After the SSB initially showed no interest in building a museum collection and the Filderbahntranwagen 126 could only be obtained by relocating it to Ludwigsburg, the GES turned to the more promising topic of railways from the end of the 1960s. However, through this commitment by GES to the preservation and later restoration of the Filderbahnwagens 126, they laid the foundation for today's collection of the Stuttgart Historic Trams Association .
Trip program
The GES regularly runs museum railways with the historic Feuriger Elias and Sofazugle trains . Due to the steam locomotive ban of the Deutsche Bundesbahn between 1977 and 1985, however, it had to limit its use on private railway lines such as the Strohgäubahn from Korntal-Münchingen to Weissach or the valley railway between Nürtingen and Neuffen . These trains are still “at home” there. Initially, special trips were carried out on the WEG route Vaihingen / Enz Nord – Enzweihingen and until 1982 on the Filderbahn between Stuttgart-Möhringen , Stuttgart-Vaihingen , Leinfelden and Neuhausen on the Fildern . From 1985 special trips were offered on other routes in the Stuttgart area.
Hohenzollern train
With the Hohenzollern Train, GES owns a technical cultural monument of the state of Baden-Württemberg. It consists of locomotives 11 and 16 as well as cars 3, 6, 7, 9, 21, 22, 24, 26, 73, 74, and 77, which were in use by the Hohenzollerische Kleinbahn Gesellschaft ( Hohenzollerische Landesbahn from 1907 ). The collection is supplemented by the locomotive 6 "Margarethe", which was in operation at the Fürstlich Hohenzollerische Hüttenwerke , and is intended to remind of the largely identical locomotive 6 of the HzL, as well as the "Landesbahnwagen" -like passenger cars from other private railways.
These vehicles are used in the museum railway operation at the Sofazügle and the Fiery Elias .
