High shot

The high shot is 824.6  m above sea level. NHN high mountain south of Piesau in the Thuringian Slate Mountains . The Rennsteig leads over the southern part of the Hohe Schuß and touches a former slate quarry here, on the summit. The name is borrowed from hunting history.

The mountain is one of the highest peaks in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district . In September 2006 a running group from the district organized a run for everyone over 64 kilometers from the lowest point in the district near Niederkrossen up to the Hohe Schuß. Thereby 658 meters of altitude had to be overcome, which is quite a lot for a district in the low mountain range.

The Hohe Schuß thinks to the north and is part of the Northern High Slate Mountains . To the north are the Rodeberg (761 m) and the Teufelskanzel (774 m), to the south the Gypsy plain (748 m) and to the south-west, separated from the neighboring Limberg by the Lange Tal , the Hammerschmieds level (696 m). The Rennsteig runs over the ridge connecting the foothills in a south-west-north-east direction. The eastern neighbor, clearly separated by a notch, is the Rote Berg . Above the Hammerschmieds level is the interface to the northeastern foothills of the Pappenheimer Berg and to the Ernstthaler Steig, over which the Rennsteig bends to the northwest.
