Clutter murder case
The small town gained notoriety on November 15, 1959, when the Clutter family - Herbert, 48, Bonnie (45), Nancy (16) and Kenyon (15) - were found murdered in their home, just outside of Holcomb. The sensational quadruple murder made headlines nationwide. Two ex-prison inmates - Dick Hickock and Perry Smith - were caught as perpetrators, convicted and hanged to death in 1965.
The American writer and journalist Truman Capote wrote the factual novel in cold blood about the events in Holcomb , which became the pioneer of New Journalism and at the same time a bestseller. The book was first filmed in 1967 and has been filmed several times since then.
