Holger Oehrens

Holger Oehrens (born April 19, 1942 in Hamburg ; † June 11, 1996 in Bargfeld-Stegen ) was a German journalist and IM of the Ministry for State Security of the GDR .

Life

Holger Oehrens worked in Hamburg as a journalist for the press and television. From 1968 he was editor of the magazine concretely in Hamburg, from 1970 he was the relaunch of the magazine twen in Munich as an editor working and from 1976 as editor of the Hamburger Morgenpost . After working in the concrete editorial team, he worked as a travel correspondent for ARD at Hessischer Rundfunk . Here he produced, among other things, the television report "Mit Hammer und Zirkel" in 1975 about vocational training in the GDR. The production was influenced by the Ministry for State Security of the GDR and broadcast by ARD. In 1976 Holger Oehrens received the Jakob Kaiser Prize from the Federal Ministry for German Relations for the film . In 1981 he switched to the Bild -Zeitung as a permanent editor, where he was in charge of the regional editorial office for the Hamburg regional edition until his death.

In 1992 Oehrens was exposed as "IM Alf". During a morning house search in the editorial office of the Hamburger Bild -ausgabe, numerous documents were confiscated and Oehrens was arrested. After a short pre-trial detention, he was sentenced to a fine in favor of a non-profit organization. Holger Oehrens committed suicide on June 11, 1996.

During his time as a picture editor, Oehrens shared his office with his colleague Andreas Jost . Jost was also exposed as a Stasi IM in the 1990s and sentenced to prison. Jost, who worked for Sat.1 and RTL after his time at Bild , died in an unsolved traffic accident in Luxembourg after his stay in prison . It is unlikely that Oehrens and Jost knew about each other's Stasi activities.
