Hollandsche Teekenmaatschappij
The Hollandsche Teekenmaatschappij ( German Dutch drawing society , the modern spelling would be Hollandse Tekenmaatschappij ) was an international association of artists who wanted to promote the exhibition of watercolors . Their seat was in The Hague .
History and members
In 1856, the Société Belge des Watercoloristes was founded in Brussels, Belgium . One of the founders was Willem Roelofs . The society organized exhibitions of Belgian watercolor artists. A few years later, artists from the Hague School were also invited. For this collaboration, the Hollandsche Teekenmaatschappij was founded on January 31, 1876 , by Bernardus Johannes Blommers , Johannes Bosboom , Jozef Israëls , Jacob Maris , Willem Maris , Anton Mauve , Hendrik Willem Mesdag , Philip Sadée and Johannes Stortenbeker . Dutch members included: David Artz , Albert Neuhuys , Elchanon Verveer , Sina van Houten and Willem Bastiaan Tholen .
The association was very successful internationally, honorary members living abroad were: Paul-Jean Clays , Paul Joseph Constantin Gabriël , Charles Hermans , Edouard Huberti , Jean Baptiste Madou , Charles Rochussen and Lawrence Alma-Tadema . The German painter Max Liebermann , Hubert von Herkomer from London, Mosè Bianchi from Milan and Vincenzo Cabianca from Rome were also members.
