Wooden shoe (heraldry)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The wooden shoe is a common figure in heraldry and is rarely used in shields or fields as a heraldic figure .

The wooden shoe is said to have been used in the coat of arms since the 12th century. All tinctures are possible. Two forms can be distinguished: the trip shoe (actually shoe with trippe) and the more modern, simple shoe shape.

In the coat of arms of the Nuremberg nobility Holzschuher von Harrlach , the shoe in the coat of arms serves as a speaking figure .
