Homayoun Ershadi (2016)

Homayoun Ershadi ( Persian همایون ارشادی; * 1947 in Isfahan ) is an Iranian actor and former architect .

Life

Ershadi, whose father worked for the armed forces of Iran , initially completed the mandatory two-year military service. In 1970 he graduated from the University of Venice with a degree in architecture . He then worked as an architect in Iran and internationally for the next 25 years.

While driving through Tehran , he stopped a little longer at a red light, where the director Abbas Kiarostami , who often worked with amateur actors , knocked on his window and offered him a role in his next film The Taste of the Cherry . Ershadi immediately agreed and took on the lead role of Mr Badii in the film , who drives through Tehran in his car and is looking for a helper for his planned suicide. The film premiered in May 1997 at the Cannes International Film Festival , where it was awarded the Palme d' Or.

After several roles in Iranian films, he took on the role of Baba in Marc Forster's literary film adaptation of the Kite Runner in 2007 . In 2012 Ershadi appeared in Kathryn Bigelow's action thriller Zero Dark Thirty in the role of the Hassan Ghoul .
