Homopholis is a genus within the gecko family.

features

Homopholis species are medium-sized to large geckos. Your skin is soft and velvety with small, grainy scales. They are usually colored in gray, brown or black tones. The fingers and toes are widened, with 8 to 12 V-shaped scansoria (adhesive lamellae) and retractable claws. Their tail is thick and relatively short, and there are precloacal pores. The pupils are vertical.

Way of life

The animals are day or night and twilight-active rock and tree dwellers who mainly feed on insects. They mainly populate savannahs and dry forests . They are often found on acacias .

distribution

Homopholis fasciata is found in Ethiopia , Somalia , Kenya and Tanzania . Homopholis mulleri in the northern Transvaal and Homopholis walbergii in Nigeria , as well as in eastern southern Africa. There is also the scientific name Homopholis wahlbergi for this gecko , since Smith mentions both versions of this name in his first description, although he explicitly refers to a Mr. Walberg. The Swede Walberg was the discoverer of this species.
