Honeoye Falls [ hʌniɔɪ ] is a village ( village ) in the US state of New York . It has 2,674 inhabitants and is located in Monroe County on the small river Honeoye Creek. It was named after its waterfalls .
history
The place was founded in 1791 by Zebulon Norton, who first built a grain mill and later a sawmill. The establishment of the mills soon led to a growth of the place, which was initially known as "Norton's Mills". A bridge over the river was built in 1810 and connected the two parts of the place, which was called "West Mendon" at that time. In March 1838, the place was officially registered as a municipality and subsequently carried its current name.
Three of the churches built at Honeoye Falls between 1841 and 1874 still stand today. Around 1902 the place had about 1,500 inhabitants and over 50 businesses, including banks, retail stores, telephone companies and hotels.
Demographics
As of the 2000 census, 97.1% of the 2,595 residents were white. 1.0% of the population were African American , 0.8% Asian, and 0.2% Native. 0.2% belonged to other races and 0.7% to several races.
Hispanics were 1.0% of the population . 21.2% were German-American , 18.4% had Irish, 17.3% English and 12.5% Italian ancestors.
