Horace McMahon

Horace McMahon (born May 17, 1906 in South Norwalk , Connecticut , † August 17, 1971 , ibid) was an American actor .

Life

Horace McMahon worked as an unskilled worker in a variety of professions, including a delivery service, a shipyard and a journalist for The South Norwalk Sentinel . He was introduced to acting while studying at Fordham University School of Law. He made his Broadway debut on October 22, 1931 in a supporting role as a reporter in the play Wonder Boy , written by Edward Chodorov and Arthur Barton . From 1937 he also played more in film and was sometimes seen in up to twelve productions within a year, often only being seen as an extra or in minor roles that were not even mentioned in the credits. Mainly he was cast as a typically seedy New York character. He often played petty criminals, taxi drivers, reporters and police officers.

McMahon had great success with the crime series Merciless City broadcast from 1958 to 1963 . In four seasons he embodied the character of Lt. alongside Harry Bellaver , Paul Burke and James Franciscus in 112 episodes. Michael "Mike" Parker. His portrayal received a nomination for Best Portrayal of a Supporting Actor at the Primetime Emmy Awards in 1962 . He played another leading role alongside Craig Stevens in the drama series Mr. Broadway produced by CBS , which was canceled in the same year after only 14 episodes.

On August 17, 1971, McMahon died at the age of 65 from complications from a heart attack . Until his death he was married to the actress Louise Campbell , whom he married in 1937.
