Horodło is a village in the powiat Hrubieszowski of the Lublin Voivodeship in Poland . The population was never very large; It was 1,635 in 1865, 2,112 in 1897, 2,495 in 1921 and 1,119 in 2008. The village is the seat of the rural community of the same name .
Horodło is located on the left bank of the Bug, right on the border with Ukraine . The distance to Hrubieszów is about 13 km and to Lublin 111 km.
history
Horodło was first mentioned in the middle of the 14th century as a settlement that belonged to the princes of Lithuania . Due to its location on the banks of the Bug, the place developed into a trading post. In 1413 the Union of Horodło between Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was signed here, which gave Lithuania its own Grand Duke and Parliament. In 1462 it came to the Kingdom of Poland and King Casimir IV. Jagiełło gave him town and market rights.
Horodło was destroyed several times in the course of its history. In 1500 by the Tatars , in 1648 by the troops of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi and in 1850 by fire. In 1706 it was built by the troops of the Swedish King Charles XII. occupied.
With the Third Partition of Poland Horodło came under Austrian rule, in 1807 to the Duchy of Warsaw and after 1815 until the First World War it was part of Congress Poland . After the First World War Horodło was in the middle of the newly formed Poland, after the Second World War on Poland's eastern border with the Ukraine .
