Horrizon is a German melodic death metal band from Rhineland-Palatinate that was founded in 2005.

history

Horrizon was founded in 2005 by Martin Gerloff ( guitar ), Marco Magistro ( vocals , bass ) and Rene Fink ( drums ). Before starting their own songwriting, they first covered songs by bands like Amon Amarth and Hammerfall . Little by little I created my own songs. The band's line-up was later supplemented by Peter Gedert (guitar) and Dominik Jahn ( keyboard ), which made the band's sound much more varied. However, when the work on the debut album came to an end, René Fink and Marco Magistro left the band to devote their attention to another project, the thrash metal band Impactor , and Horrizon was on the verge of disbanding. Through some restructuring in the line-up, the musicians managed to keep the band alive and to finish recording the first album Time for Revenge . Martin Gerloff took over the vocals from now on and handed over his role as guitarist to Joshua Immig. Franz Rieman (bass) and Florian Kneib (drums) completed the new band line-up. In 2011 Horrizon signed a recording deal with Yonah Records and released their debut album Time for Revenge .

After several successful live performances (including twice at the Metalfest Loreley (2012 & 2014)) Martin Gerloff and Peter Gedert began to write songs for their second long player. The album is titled Dwelling Within and was also released by Yonah Records in June 2015. The album was rated nine out of ten possible points by Mike Langer at FFM-Rock and commented with the summary: "Finally a band from the underground who combines class and race". Shortly before the release of Dwelling Within, the band's line-up changed; Julian Fischer replaced Christian Krämer, who had been part of the band since the Metalfest / Loreley 2014. There have also been changes on the guitar front since the performance at Metalfest 2014: Ralf Strzalka (Ex- Stigmatized ) replaced Joshua Immig, but left the band again shortly before the Russia tour in September 2015, which Robert Darlak completed as the new guitarist. Julian Fischer (Snakebite) also left the band shortly before the Russia tour, Marco Prij (Distillator) took over his job as a tour drummer in Russia.

After further line-up changes, Horrizon is now complete again. The guitar front is now formed by Peter Gedert and Michael Bach. After a long search for a drummer, Robert Witzel took over the drums. Horrizon is currently nearing the completion of the third studio album World of Pain , which is due to be released in autumn 2019.

In February the band released a song for the single Once in a While via Spotify etc. and a video clip via YouTube as a foretaste of the album.

style

music

Horrizon are stylistically assigned to Melodic Death Metal , with their songs having influences from different metal directions such as classic heavy metal , black metal , death metal and also thrash metal . The keyboards are presented with symphonic passages as well as clear lead melodies. Each song has a solo. On the drums, fast double bass beats are usually played alternately with different blast beat variations, with slower parts also being used in places. The vocals, which still sound relatively growl- heavy on Time for Revenge, were used more versatile on the second album. Clean vocals can also be heard on the songs Last Masquerade and Whispering My Name .

Texts

Most of the songs on Time for Revenge deal with ancient wars / battles and Norse mythology ( Northern Winds , Journey to Valhall ), on the one hand on the influence of bands like Amon Amarth, on the other hand on the personal preference of the ex-singer and Bassist Marco Magistro for Germanic Mythology is due. After leaving the band, Martin Gerloff and Peter Gedert took over the entire songwriting and distanced themselves from the typical Viking themes. The second album, Dwelling Within, focuses on obsession , although other topics such as criticism of religion and schizophrenia are also dealt with.
