Horst-Peter Götting

Horst-Peter Götting (* 1954 ) is a German lawyer with the research priorities copyright , patent , trademark , personality and competition and antitrust law . Since 1993 he has been a professor at the Technical University of Dresden and since 1996 a judge at the Dresden Higher Regional Court .

Life

Götting studied law at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , where he passed the first state examination in law in 1980 . In 1981 he completed a six-month internship at the German-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Paris and was a guest student at the Sorbonne . From 1981 to 1985 he was a PhD scholarship holder and research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Patent, Copyright and Competition Law . 1983 put goddess after the end of the legal traineeship , the second state examination from before it with a comparative 1985 dissertation on the subject of the recent development of the addition law in Germany, Belgium, France and Sweden, at the same time a critical analysis of the German law on the opening credits Advertising doctorate . The work was awarded the Faculty Prize of the Law Faculty of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. 1985 Götting research fellow at the Munich Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Patent, Copyright and Competition Law and acquired in 1987 after participating in a year-long legal and economic postgraduate program of the London School of Economics and Political Science degree Master of Laws . In 1991 he was a visiting scholar at Stanford University for several months as part of a research stay . He completed his habilitation with a thesis on personal rights as property rights .

On September 1, 1993, Götting became professor for civil law with special consideration of industrial property rights and copyright law at the Technical University of Dresden. Since February 1996 he has been a judge at the Dresden Higher Regional Court in the second main office, since November 1996 he has also headed the Institute for Technical and Environmental Law and since January 2005 the Institute for Intellectual Property, Competition and Media Law of the Law Faculty of the Technical University of Dresden as its director. During the summer semester of 1999 he turned down a call to an endowed chair for civil law, industrial property rights and copyright at the law faculty of the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf . This was connected with the offer to join the patent senate of the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court as a judge . Since the summer semester 2007 Horst-Peter Götting has been an honorary professor at the Law Faculty of the University of Leipzig .

In the 1999/2000 winter semester, Götting initiated the postgraduate course in International Studies in Intellectual Property Law at the Technical University of Dresden , of which he is still director today. This one-year course enables specialization in trademark, design and patent law as well as in competition and media law. Legal questions in connection with new technologies, multimedia and the Internet are to be dealt with in depth. The course was awarded by the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft . From the 2018/2019 winter semester, the course will also be offered in English.

Horst-Peter Götting is the managing director of the Law Faculty of the TU Dresden.
