Horst Ankermann
Willi Walter Horst Ankermann (born December 20, 1921 in Königsberg , East Prussia , † August 5, 2005 in Berlin ) was a German pharmacologist and sculptor .
Life and work
In 1942 Ankermann began studying medicine as a member of the Wehrmacht and was taken prisoner of war by the Soviets on April 17, 1945, where he made his first experiences in carving. In 1952 he passed the medical exam with the top grade and received his license to practice medicine . The following year he worked as an assistant in the 2nd Medical Clinic and the Pathological Institute of the Charité . On January 16, 1954 he became an assistant at the Institute for Pharmacology and Toxicology at the Charité and on December 2 of the same year at the Humboldt University in Berlin with the dissertation on nuclear glycogen in the liver, its appearance in puncture and dissection material and its relationships to various pathological processes to the Dr. med. PhD . On January 1, 1956 he was appointed senior assistant; on September 23, 1957 he was given permission to take the state examination . He held lectures on drug prescription theory from October 9, 1959. On October 1, 1961 , he completed his habilitation in pharmacology and toxicology with the thesis on the effects of adrenaline, arterenol and novodrin on gas metabolism and the body temperature of the anesthetized rat at the Charité, became a lecturer at the University of Rostock on January 1, 1962 and acting director of the Institute for Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Rostock on September 1, 1962. On June 1, 1962, Ankermann was appointed full professor at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena and was also appointed director of the Institute for Pharmacology and Toxicology. On June 1, 1973, he was appointed prorector at the Academy for Medical Training of the GDR in Berlin and as a professor for pharmacology. He retired on January 1, 1986 .
From 1973 to 1975 he was chairman of the working group of pharmacologists in industry and universities in the GDR .
Ankermann resumed carving in 1965 after an interruption of almost 20 years. In 1994 Ankermann stopped carving.
