Horst Engel (politician, 1927)

Horst Engel (born July 7, 1927 in Berlin ; † December 17, 1984 ) was a German politician ( SPD ) and a member of the Hessian state parliament .

education and profession

After graduating from elementary and high school, Horst Engel worked as a journalist for the Hamburger Echo and as a constituency employee for Herbert Wehner . In 1954 he moved to the Rhein-Main area in Offenbach , where he worked in the insurance industry.

Horst Engel was married and had two children.

politics

Horst Engel had been a member of the SPD since 1948.

From 1960 to 1975 he was a city councilor in Offenbach am Main and from 1963 to 1973 chairman of the SPD parliamentary group.

From August 8, 1972, when he replaced his deceased party friend Olaf Radke , he was a member of the Hessian state parliament for five terms until his death on December 17, 1984. He always ran in the Offenbach-Stadt constituency , where he was directly elected in the state elections in 1974 , 1978 and 1983 . In the state elections in Hesse in 1982, he was defeated by the Christian Democrat Hermann Schoppe and entered the state parliament via the SPD state list.

Other offices

Horst Engel was a member of the administrative board of the Städtische Sparkasse Offenbach.
